Six rooms, and what happens in each one while you're away — at home or at the office.
Whether it's the last car leaving an office lot or the last person leaving for work at home, I let myself in. From here it's the same route every visit, in the same order, because that's how nothing gets missed — the entry first, then the main rooms, the kitchen, the washrooms, and the glass and floors on the way back out.
One person cleans your home or office. Me. You'll know who's been through the door.
This is the first room a client or a guest sees, so it gets cleaned first, while I'm still fresh. The front desk or entry table is cleared, wiped with a damp microfiber and dried with a second cloth so there's no streak left under the light. Fingerprints come off the door glass on both sides.
Chairs get pulled out, the arms and the bases wiped, the seats vacuumed into the seams. Magazines squared. The waste basket is emptied and relined, not just topped off.
Flat microfiber, neutral pH cleaner, and a dry cloth behind it. Glass gets its own cloth that never touches a desk.
Papers and belongings stay where you left them. I work around what's on the surface, not through it — desks and counters get wiped, keyboards and remotes get disinfected, and screens get a dry pass only, never a spray.
Then the parts nobody sees: the underside of the desk edge, the chair base, the dust line on top of the monitor arm and the cable tray. Bins at every station emptied, liners changed. The floor vacuumed in straight runs, chairs moved, not vacuumed around.
Phones, remotes and other shared touchpoints are disinfected with a hospital-grade cleaner and left to dwell the full contact time, not wiped dry on contact.
The break room is where an office smells either cared for or neglected, and the difference is about fifteen minutes. The sink is scrubbed and the drain flushed. The counter is cleared, degreased and dried. The microwave gets opened — inside, the turntable out, the ceiling of it, the door seal.
Coffee machine drip tray rinsed. Cabinet fronts wiped at handle height, where everyone touches them. Fridge exterior and handle disinfected. Trash and recycling out to the dumpster, bins wiped on the rim, fresh liners in.
Separate cloths, separate colour, separate bucket. Nothing that touches a toilet ever touches a desk — that rule is the whole reason the route runs in this order.
Bowls are cleaned with a disinfectant that's left to sit, then brushed under the rim. Seats done on both faces, hinges included. The base of the toilet and the floor behind it — the spot that makes a washroom smell — is wiped by hand, not mopped past.
Mirrors streak-free. Chrome dried so it shines instead of spotting. Dispensers refilled: soap, towel, tissue. Floor mopped last, working backwards to the door.
Colour-coded cloths. Red stays in the washroom, blue never leaves the office floor.
Hard floors are dust-mopped first so the mop isn't just pushing grit around, then damp-mopped with a clean rinse, corners and edges by hand. Carpet gets the vacuum in overlapping passes, and any spot that showed up this week gets treated before it sets.
Interior glass last: conference room partitions or patio sliders, side lights, the front door. Sprayed on the cloth rather than the pane so nothing runs into the frame, squeegeed, edges dried. Then the lights go off one bank at a time as I walk back toward the door I came in through.
Doors locked, alarm set, lights out. You get a message when I'm gone.
