A letter, from me to you

I'm the only person who will ever be in your house. Here's what I'm promising, and what happens if I break it.

My name is on the door, so there's no office to call and no crew to blame. I clean homes in Uxbridge on a regular schedule — same house, same day, same hands. That's the whole business.

Most people reading this are deciding whether to let a stranger have a key. I think the honest way to answer that is to write down exactly what I owe you before you've paid me a dollar. So that's what the rest of this is.

The first promise

It will always be me. Not a sub, not a rotating team, not someone I met last week. If I'm ever unable to come, you hear it from me directly and we move the day — you don't come home to a stranger's car in the driveway.

The second promise

I show up when I said. If I'm running late I text before the hour is up, not after. Your time is the part of this I can't give back to you, so I treat it as the thing I'm most likely to be judged on.

The third promise

I use gentle, low-fragrance products as standard — the kind I'm comfortable using around children, cats and people who don't want their house to smell like a pool deck. If you'd rather I used something of your own, leave it out and I'll use that instead.

The fourth promise

I don't move or rearrange your things beyond what I need to clean under them, and I don't go anywhere you've asked me not to. A closed door stays closed.

The fifth promise

The price I quote is the price. It doesn't drift upward because a visit ran long, and it doesn't change without a conversation first.

Eco-friendly cleaning tools — bamboo brushes, coconut scrubbers and bar soap
What I carry in. Nothing harsh, nothing borrowed.

And when I miss

I will, eventually. Everyone does. A baseboard gets skipped, a day gets rescheduled badly, something I thought was clean wasn't.

Here is what happens, and it doesn't require you to argue for it: tell me within two days, and I come back and redo that room properly, at no charge and usually within the week. If it's something I can't fix by redoing it, that visit isn't billed.

If something breaks under my hands, I tell you the same day — before you've found it yourself — and I make it right. I'd rather lose the cost of a lamp than have you wondering what else I didn't mention.

You don't owe me notice periods or explanations to stop, either. If it isn't working, say so and we're done, cleanly.

In plain terms, a regular visit is the whole lived-in house: kitchen surfaces, sinks and the outside of appliances; bathrooms top to bottom including glass and grout lines; floors vacuumed and washed; dusting from light fixtures down to baseboards; beds made or linens changed if you leave them out; bins emptied and mirrors done last so they stay done.

  • Kitchens — counters, sinks, fronts, floors
  • Bathrooms — tubs, tile, glass, fixtures
  • Bedrooms — dusting, floors, linens
  • Living areas — surfaces, upholstery, under things
  • Entryways and stairs
  • Interior windows and mirrors
  • Weekly, biweekly or monthly
  • Move-in and move-out, by arrangement

What I don't do: exteriors, heavy renovation debris, anything that needs a ladder taller than me. I'd rather tell you that now than find out on the day.

If that sounds like the arrangement you want, the next step is small: tell me where you are and roughly how often, and I'll come look at the house before either of us commits to anything.

Sincerely,

That Gal Can Clean
